Jumper at Naypyitaw Cinema

Naypyitaw cinema had started showing “Jumper” since last Friday. It was a holiday but I thought the place might be crowded so we decided to watch it on the weekend. My friend wanted to come along so we watched the first show at 10:00 am as she had to go to a clinic with her mother in the afternoon. The last time I saw an foreign movie at the theater was when I watched Superman and it wasn’t a good experience back then as I could barely hear the dialogues and I watched it at Thamada, which is the best cinema in town. Luckily, the sound system wasn’t poor like the last time so I heard about 90% of the dialogues perfectly well. Even through the special effects are cool, I don’t like the movie that much but it still was worth watching ‘cuz of Hayden :). When it comes out on dvd, I might watch it back once just to watch him again.

Afterward, we went to the ICT Exhibition at Tatmadaw Hall. My friend wanted to go there just to see her boyfriend and my sister wanted to check out the computer price rates. The place is extremely hot and so crowded with people. I really feel sorry for those who have to stay at the booths for the whole day. I met a couple of ex-workmates but I didn’t see anyone else. I kind of miss the old days when I usually bump into my friends who were positioned to stay at the booth or those who had come to look around. We only stayed for about 30 minutes and we escaped the heat by heading outside. We had lunch at a small shop nearby and I ordered laphat with rice plate. My friend ordered Shan noodle but she didn’t like her food so she ate half of what I ordered.

The rest of the day is just the same. I went home and waited for the electricity to come at 5 pm. Then I watched a couple episodes of Heroes and watched the Water Horse movie. The baby water horse was really cute and I love the scene when he runs from the dog. The ending reminds me of Free Willy.

Happy 10th Anniversary Shinhwa!

Shinhwa

I almost forgot that today is Shinhwa’s 10th anniversary day. I was so caught up in work and I only found out a few minutes. I intended to celebrate the day listening to their songs all day long but the new rule at work won’t allow me to listen to music with headphone.

Anyway, happy anniversary :). Can’t believe it’s 10 years already. I became their fan back in 2002 after watching their 1st live concert. At that time, my fav member was HyeSung ‘cuz I fell in love with his voice. His voice is still amazing but now my favorite is Minwoo. At that time, I was still naive with using the internet to download their songs and videos so I didn’t know much about them except the songs from the concert. Later on, I learned more about the internet and I found their albums online. After their 7th album was released, I have became a really big fan of them and I became to like all the members.

Their 9th album is gonna be released next month. I am looking forward to it. :)

Exam Results are Out

The results for the exam came out yesterday. A friend call my mother before I left for work so she told me to look at it from the internet. I told myself not to get my hopes up but still I was at least expecting to pass the written exam and then fail the oral exam. My friends didn’t pass the exam also but I am quite happy for E.S for having pass the exam. She didn’t even get the chance to take tuition yet she still pass the exam. Aja! Aja! Fighting! Sis :)

Even through I am happy for E.S, I am a bit depressed as I never can get anything done. We have been discussing about 10th grade exam in forum and I have felt that I only passed it ‘cuz the teachers grading my exam papers felt pity for failing miserably so they allowed me to pass.

My parents have spent around 100000 kyats ever since I started attending the tuition up to the day I came back from Pyinmanar. I didn’t want to take the exam in the first place but my mother told me to give it a try. I didn’t want to waste more of her money and end up failing again.

I wish I know why I wasn’t pick. Was it due to my poor result in Myanmarsar or G.K? I know I did well in English but my translation wasn’t that good enough.

Wedding Ceremony on Saturday

Our office was closed on Saturday due to our director’s wedding ceremony in the afternoon. It started at 12 noon so I did planned to go there early but once again, I was late and arrived at 1pm instead. I was a bit late going to the beauty salon and someone was already there when I got there. I rarely wear makeup at all but since it was a special occasion, I asked the lady there to apply makeup on me using the makeup my sister bought for me. I got home around 12:30 and ate lunch quickly and dress up. Luckily, my father was waiting to take me to the hotel so I arrived in time before the bride and groom come into the hall. The food were nothing special, just typical stuffs you see at wedding ceremonies except for that delicious slice of cheese cake.

After the wedding, we took photos and went to their place to get pocket money by putting gold chains in front of them before they pass into the house. It’s a tradition to do that at weddings and I don’t know the exact phrase to explain it well. Afterward, I went home and took a nap until 5pm. Then I have to dress again for the dinner party. I didn’t want to be late again this time but I was the first person to arrive at the place this time. The waiters didn’t start serving the food until 7pm and by that time I was glad to see any food on the table. The party ended around 9pm.

Stage6 to Shut Down on February 28

I’m Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I’m writing this message today to inform you that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. Upload functionality has already been turned off, and you’ll be able to view and download videos until Thursday.I know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many Stage6 users, and I’d like to take a few moments to explain the reasons behind our decision. We created Stage6 with the mission of empowering content creators and viewers to discover a new kind of video experience. Stage6 began as an experiment, and we always knew there was a chance that it might not succeed.

In many ways, though, the service did succeed, beyond even our own initial expectations. Stage6 became very popular very quickly. We helped gain exposure for some talented filmmakers who brought great videos to the attention of an engaged community. We helped prove that it’s possible to distribute true high definition video on the Internet. And we helped broaden the Internet video experience by offering content that is compatible with DVD players, mobile devices and other products beyond the PC.

So why are we shutting the service down? Well, the short answer is that the continued operation of Stage6 is a very expensive enterprise that requires an enormous amount of attention and resources that we are not in a position to continue to provide. There are a lot of other details involved, but at the end of the day it’s really as simple as that.

Now, why didn’t we think of that before we decided to create Stage6 in the first place, you may ask? That’s a good question. When we first created Stage6, there was a clear need for a service that would offer a true high quality video experience online because other video destinations on the Internet simply weren’t providing that to users. A gap existed, and Stage6 arrived to fill it.

As Stage6 grew quickly and dramatically (accompanied by an explosion of other sites delivering high quality video), it became clear that operating the service as a part of the larger DivX business no longer made sense. We couldn’t continue to run Stage6 and focus on our broader strategy to make it possible for anyone to enjoy high quality video on any device. So, in July of last year we announced that we were kicking off an effort to explore strategic alternatives for Stage6, which is a fancy way of saying we decided we would either have to sell it, spin it out into a private company or shut it down.

I won’t (and can’t, really) go into too much detail on those first two options other than to say that we tried really hard to find a way to keep Stage6 alive, either as its own private entity or by selling it to another company. Ultimately neither of those two scenarios was possible, and we made the hard decision to turn the lights off and cease operation of the service.

So that’s where we are today. After February 28, Stage6 will cease to exist as an online destination. But the larger DivX universe will continue to thrive. Every day new DivX Certified devices arrive on the market making it easy to move video beyond the PC. Products powered by DivX Connected, our new initiative that lets users stream video, photos, music and Internet services from the PC to the TV, are hitting retail outlets. We remain committed to empowering content creators to deliver high quality video to a wide audience, and we’ll continue to offer services that will make it easy to find videos online in the DivX format.

It’s been a wild ride, and none of it would have been possible without the support of our users. Thank you for making Stage6 everything that it was.

–Tom

This is bad :(. I always like stage6 the most as I can download videos in high quality. I downloaded most Japanese dramas from that site and also I can find Korean music videos and performances in high quality. Now I only get 2 days to collect videos before they shut it down.

Donation

Sometimes people waste their money eating out, shopping, etc but when they are asked to donate money or give money to beggars, they rarely do that. I don’t mean you have to hand out money to every beggars you see on the street but it makes me feel angry sometimes to see people handing out 20, 50 or 100 kyats to old people. and they are the ones who don’t mind wasting money for fun but they can’t even spare some little money to donate.

I’m not trying to point my fingers at anyone ‘cuz sometimes I am included also. I don’t mind spending money on buying dvds but I don’t always donate my money. I only pick old people and some monks and nuns to donate my money. I have always been wanting to donate my money to an orphanage for my birthday but I never got the chance to do that as I always spend my money on treating my friends instead. It’s an obligation that I can’t avoid. I don’t like being given present only when I treat them ‘cuz I feel as if they are only giving them ‘cuz I treated them. That is why I tried to hand out my gifts exactly on their birthdays even when they aren’t prepared to treat me ‘cuz I only want to make them happy and I don’t want to expect anything from them. It’s their own choice to treat me or not.

Bored with the Internet

I actually got bored surfing the internet today. I couldn’t think of anything to do so I just read forum topics after topics and later on, decided to check out my sis’s blog to see whether she upload some pictures of the things she have bought. She haven’t post much there but I found this comic which was originally from NativeMyanmar but I didn’t notice it before.

Busy Monday

Ever since I got to work, I haven’t much time to rest except at lunch time as I have so much works to catch up to. I have to read emails after emails and work on the instructions. They give me a headache.

Song of the day : Wonder Girls - Headache

Although this song is a love song (I think), the title match with my current mood.
